When cool breezes start to sweep through the northeast, it brings with it apple picking, sweater weather, and hayrides to the pumpkin patch. It also brings a vibrant change of flora as leaves turn from bright green to shades of purple, red, yellow, and orange.

The result is picturesque.

Today, let’s discuss the best places where you can truly cherish the autumn in the Northeast states.

Maine

Fall Foliage in Maine, USA

Traveling down Route 1A to the coast of Damariscotta, you can gaze upon a stunning sight. The autumn leaves here have prime colors. This site usually occurs during the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest, held annually in mid-October.

Most believe that Maine has some of the best fall foliage in New England. It’s recommended that wanna-be leaf peepers take a drive down either Route 1 or Route 1A for some prominent leaf colors viewing. It’s truly unique. Beyond these roads, there are several other places to see leaves in Maine, and none of them disappoint!

Acadia National Park

Cadillac Mountain, Acadia National Park, USA

Another site in Maine, the Acadia National Park, is perhaps one of the best-known places to view autumn leaves. Here you can do a little hiking to enjoy the scenery. You can also drive along Park Loop Road and stop at one of the many vistas to gaze out or snap a picture of autumn colors.

Acadia has many more options for hiking, including easy trails like Ship’s Harbor and Wonderland to challenging mountain hikes with incredible views. When you’re done hiking, you can take a short drive to Bar Harbor to grab a bite.

New York

Central Park, NY, USA - Fall Foliage

In a regular year, most of New York hits peak foliage season during early October. However, before you visit, be sure to check your travel map to find the ideal spots for your trips.

Overlook Mountain Wild Forest, Woodstock

Scenic Overlook in Woodstock, Vermont, USA

This is a place for a lovely autumn hike. There are many trails to pick from, including the Overlook Mountain Spur Trail, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Hudson River Valley and Catskill Mountains at the summit.

When you’re done with the hike, you can head into town. Woodstock is an artsy, fun town with good food and shops. The fanciful stores will offer you something whimsical and different.

Bear Mountain State Park, Bear Mountain

Bear Lake, USA

While you drive down the Palisades Parkway, take your time to see the rusty colors outside your car window. Later, take a hike or bike ride through the park, and be sure to bring your picnic accessories while you’re at it.
