Have you been counting down the summer days until the start of winter? Do you plan your winter activities at the beach? We know you're excited, and to help your planning we've compiled a list of the favorite outdoor activities to do in Colorado this winter.

Ice Climbing

The Fang - Ice Climbing in Vail, CO

Colorado is considered to be the ice-climbing capital of the world, and the Ice Park is the best place to give the sport a go. The ice park has a man-made climbing wall within a spectacular natural gorge. Ice farmers spray the canyon walls with 250 sprinklers making more than 150 “climbs". The park is also completely free to the public, but lessons and gears come from local vendors may cost you some money.

Ski Biking

Sure, you could go fat biking to power through powder, but ski biking is a more fun way to glide through the snow. You’ll technically have to be an intermediate skier as you would be thrown on a blue run immediately. However, this is an exhilarating experience you're sure to remember for a lifetime.

Dogsledding

Derpy Husky Dog Sledding

In case you didn’t know, yes, you could dog sled in Colorado. There are a few options around the state with adorable huskies ready to run. You can try Alpine Adventures outside of Breckenridge, which is actually a rescue facility for sled dogs.

You’ll hop in a sleigh and take turns riding and mushing along in a sled pulled by a snowmobile. Once the ride’s over, you’re allowed to play with the pups, but good luck trying to leave without wanting to bring one home with you.

Ice Bumper Cars

Ice bumper cars were a new winter sport invented in Colorado, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Expandable tubes on wheels that ram into people. You can try this at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Aurora Howelsen, right near DIA, or the Ice Arena in Steamboat Springs.

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling Colorado

With over 3,000 miles of trails in the state, Colorado is a snowmobiling haven. Several companies offer rentals. However, suppose you`re looking for guided tours. In that case, operators run two-hour to full-day trips through the national forest and groomed powder in Breckenridge, Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Vail, and Beaver Creek near the Continental Divide.
