Bali is a gorgeous Indonesian island located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It sits between the islands of Java and Lombok and has incredible mountains that are famous among tourists. The mountains of Bali are a fantastic vacation destination. The climate is perfect and the atmosphere is relaxed, which draws travelers from across the world. Bali has a lot to offer travelers hoping to take a mountaineering trip. Below are some of the best Bali mountains to hike for the adventurous traveler!

Gunung Adeng

Pura Besakih TempleThe locals believe that this mountain is the home of the Gods. The mother of all Bali temples, known as Pura Besakih, is located on this mountain. Mount Agung is the highest point in Bali and is a stratovolcano located to the southeast of the Mount Batur volcano. The mountain is conical shaped and hikers from across the world hike this mountain at sunrise for the gorgeous views. The hike is pretty difficult, but it is a once in a lifetime experience you don’t want to miss!


Gunung Catur

Gunung Catur is Bali’s fourth highest mountain peak, with an altitude of 6,086 feet. This mountain can be found east of Lake Bratan. It is covered in thick forests and it is recommended to hire a guide to help you get around. It typically takes about 3 hours to summit. Catch a sunrise at the top for a breathtaking experience. Early morning climbs also offer fantastic views of the area before clouds begin rolling in.

Gunung Batukaru

Jatiluwih and the landscape of Mount Batukaru BaliGunung Batukaru is an inactive volcano on Bali island and is the second highest mountain, with an elevation of 7,467 feet. The Mawa River flows through an opening at the southern end of this volcano crater. It is famous for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views and offers many hotel options for travelers. This mountain is popular among resident expatriates as the accommodation prices are somewhat less than other similar areas.

Gunung Abang

You get to travel up the mountain through a lush forest pathway. Hiring a guide will make your hike easier, although you can also head up without one. The southwest ridge is the most commonly used route to the top. Along this path, you will find temples at the top – all of which are frequently visited by locals.

Gunung Lesung

Gunung Lesung is a beautiful place to visit, which also happens to house the Buyan and Tamlingan locals. This mountain features a massive crater at the top and belongs to the Bedugul volcanic region, located south of Tamblingan lake. With an altitude of 6,184 feet above sea level, it is a moderate mountain to climb. It is a great place for tourists from afar and houses the Naga Loka temple deep in its jungle, as well as the Endek and Bukit temples.

Gunung Lempuyang

Pura Lempuyang Luhur temple on BaliThis mountain is also known as Mount Lempuyang Luhur. It is a famous sacred point of Bali. Atop the slope of this mountain sits Pura Penataran Agung. You have the option to climb or trek with some amazing views. Pura Luhur is one of the nine directional temples of Bali, making it an area of significant meaning to the local culture, heritage, and religion.
