If you feel like you’ll go stir crazy if you’re not able to travel, never fear! There are many fun things you can do at home to enjoy your stay and prepare for your next big adventure. All are things you can do from the comfort and safety of your living room. You can get a sense of a country’s culture, customs, language, history, and attractions before you visit.

Below we have listed some things you can do while waiting for your next opportunity to travel.

Go on a virtual museum tour.

Many museums offer virtual tours. You can check out the many exhibits and learn about the different artists housed inside the space. Best of all, you don’t need to do any walking! You can click or scroll your way through floors of artifacts and artwork with the greatest of ease.

Learn how to cook a traditional meal.

Find a recipe online or request one from a friend from across the globe to sample. Source the ingredients that you need and take all the steps necessary to make the beautiful food that you’ll share with your family. Enjoy sitting down to a homecooked meal together and embrace your time from the rest of the world.

Take language learning classes.

There are many ways to learn a new language. You can use a language-learning app, take an online class through an e-learning platform, or buy a book on the subject. The most important thing to remember is that practice makes perfect. You’ll want to keep trying the new language until you’re able to speak it with minimal mistakes.

Celebrate a holiday that isn’t one you already love.

Find a holiday that the country that you’d like to visit celebrates, and learn everything you can about it. When the date of it arrives, prepare a celebration that allows you to explore many of the area’s traditions. You can even ask a person that you know from that country to share their favorite parts of celebrating with you so you can enjoy the festivities together online.

Find a pen pal in another country and write letters.

Writing letters is a lost art that continues to get resurrected by passionate people who love getting ‘real mail’ in their mailboxes. If you want to get to know a country from the perspective of someone who lives there, take some time to find a pen pal that you can write to regularly.

You’ll be able to exchange correspondence and learn a lot about one another quickly. Having a pen pal gives you an insider’s viewpoint of a country and its people. It’s a fun way to pass the time and something you can even do as a family.
